I want to start by apologizing to you, the reader, for my lack of vision. I fell for it and in the way to the polls I asked you to come with me. I guess when I heard then candidate Obama say at the convention that one word "Enough!", I actually believed him. But after afghanistan, health care, and his timid way around the environment, I have come to a realization. No matter how good a speech is, if you are a Democrat and a politician you are spineless. No way around it. There is no longer a liberal party, just an ultra conservative and a bunch of center/right cowards.

Teddy Kennedy is rolling in his grave. You know what Mr. President? In your misguided attemt at making Joe Lieberman happy you lost a lot of us. Joe Lieberman who did not support you, has your ear a lot more than us, the people who volunteered, who knocked on doors and donated money. Us who believed you would be an exceptional president are now feeling foolish. Your white house is tough on Gov Dean, but would not say an unkind word about Ben Nelson or Joe Lieberman. You fooled us. You gave us hope and then showed us that there is no hope. This country was bought and sold a long time ago.

The Catholic Church in DC decided to flex its muscle. They are telling the city council that they will not be able to honor their contracts if DC passes the same sex marriage bill. I say good riddance. Just do what you do when one of your priests molests a boy. Move around, no one will miss ya.

While you are at it, why not sell the real estate you have in the district, maybe use that to feed people in third world countries. Come on Catholics, do what you preach and live humble, like Jesus. The carpenter would have. I am guessing you won't because you are all talk and no real result. Do they understand that they are saying "if we can't discriminate against gay people, then we won't feed the hungry in the district. We won't help put a roof over homeless people's heads, we hate gays that much"?

What would happen if you were planning something and someone else came along and said "my imaginary friend says not to go to that place". Would you take him seriously? No, you would say "shut up crazy." Well Catholic church... shut up crazy.

If you have been following the developments about health care reform, you may have noticed that groups of people have been disrupting town hall meetings. These groups have been mobilized by the extreme right. Their objective is not to have people voice their opinion. Their objective is to prevent others from having a conversation about the much needed reform. So far, the right is winning the argument simply because the corporate media is both racist and corrupt. The town hall meetings are packed with angry white people who exhibit the most blatant selfish feelings. They claim to be there because they want to rescue America from socialism. As one woman put it, she does not want America to become a socialist country like Russia (Russia is now the prime example of predatory capitalism.) Their ignorance is unbelievable. Their ignorance is precisely the source of their anger and open racism. Recent polls reveal that 70% of white people in the South believe President Obama was not born in the US. They can not stand the fact that the country is changing. They see America's new face and become outraged. They just can not process that America elected and African American President, that there is a Liberal woman as Secretary of State, and a Latina as a Supreme Court Justice. All this seems to be too much for their reactionary minds to accept. Therefore, they are determined to see the "black President" fail. They scream they want their country back. The question is "back from what?" The answer is not from socialism. The answer is they want their country back from the "Black President." There is one more important point that needs to be considered. So far the town hall meeting protesters have been white. They show up in groups of 40 or 50 and disrupt the meetings. The media has of course portrayed them as patriotic citizens exercising their first amendment rights. What would happen if 40 or 50 Black or Latino men showed up to disrupt a town hall meeting. You know the answer well!

Where did the hope go? I am writing this today after being absent for a while because I feel betrayed. I worked for this Democratic party. I raised money last year on the streets, and I knocked on doors. I told people that once we had a majority in congress that we would change this country, and then candidate Obama made it clear that we needed change. He asked me and every American to have hope for the future, and I did.

Now, a year after the knocking on doors and raising money for the Democrats I have become an unintentional liar. The health care reform, that was so important back then has been reduced to nothing thanks to a bunch of spineless or otherwise bought out democrats, and a leader who refuses to do just that... lead. We (liberals) wanted a single payer system which in fairness the President never promised, but we were willing to settle for a public option. Something that Mr. Obama said as recently as last month was necessary to keep insurance companies honest. Now due to lies and fake outrage from republicans, the public option seems to be almost out of the picture.

What is the President afraid of? Poll numbers? the reason over 50 percent of people disapprove his handling of health care is because that number includes people like me who think he should be leading. What was the point of voting for a bunch of cowards who would not stand up for the people? Why did we call the republicans corrupt just to replace them with these corrupt democrats? I for one am ready to say this. If there is no public health option in this "health care reform package, then I promise, never, ever, ever to vote for another democrat so long as I live. I think you the reader should do the same. And by that, I do not mean vote republican. I mean stand up and go to another party. The Green party needs people, and the way the democrats are acting we will need a liberal party in this country.

Gay Marriage Recognition in DC: A Step in the Right Direction

The DC Council has taken the first step in the right direction when it comes to gay marriage. Of course recognition is only a first step. Equal rights should be the ultimate goal. Standing in the way of that goal however are former crack head and current tax evader Marion Barry, as well as the National Organization for Marriage (with their new pet, the very topless Carrie Prejean, AKA Miss California, AKA the dumb chick from that Miss USA thing). Oh and a bunch black of churches, more on them later.

Marion Barry has some nerve, he said he is a friend of the gay community. Does he mean like a slave owner is a friend to the slaves because he does not beat them with a rod, but still will not see them as equal? Mr Barry, seeing someone on the street and smiling does not make you their friend. Going to bat for them when they are being ganged up on, even when it is not something that will keep you employed does.

The National Organization for Marriage in their website has a picture of a watch, and the very creative line... that's right, you guessed it "not in my watch". Isn't that what racists in the south used to say about school integration in the 50's and 60's? Then Bimbo in Chief Prejean says her position is not discriminatory... excuse me, but isn't saying that someone can't do something you CAN do because they are different than you the very definition of discrimination? I don't expect Prejean to understand that as it involves thinking... not her forte.

That brings me to the black churches. Those hypocrites, those charlatans. Those people who have felt what discrimination does to an entire community, and now they themselves discriminate. How dare they try to hurt an entire group of people over differences like looks or sexual orientation? Then the cowards hide behind the bible to excuse their own immoral behavior. Did you not read the bible? It condones in fact encourages slavery. Yeah that was wrong, but the gay part... right on. You, the ones that have felt discrimination, have no business discriminating against others. How dare you?

Screw Wall Street, take those 750 billion bucks and give it to the people, every adult gets the same amount, the poor, the middle class and the rich. Let the people decide where the money should receive the money. besides that will help everybody pay their mortgages and will save the stripping and gambling industries in 14 hours.

a-If your company is bailed out, no one in the board of directors can get a bonus until the money is repaid.

b-If your company is bailed out, no one, I repeat, no one in the board of directors can make more than the one person in the entire company that makes the least money. I am sure that if they run into a little trouble they can sell their boats, mansions, and Porshes. If they can't get by with that money after they sell their stuff then let them file for bankruptcy like everybody else.

c-Accountability, if you get bailed out, because you have been screwing Joe Public, then you get a new place with a few bars overlooking the prison's laundry room. If you get bailed out but your company was simply a victim of other companies that screwed the economy this does not apply

d-Once your company has paid their debt to tax payers and society, no one in the board of directors can make more than 20 times as much as your least paid employee, for life. Unless of course your company is privately owned in which case you can do with it what ever you want.

Those are my rules for the bail out, I am sure both conservatives and republicans which are not politicians or board members will agree will work. Hey if you did not get bailed out you can do what ever you want. These rules apply to the bunch of thieves that the government wants to save.

Most people who were born and raised in the South know the rest of the phrase Rep. Lynn Westmoreland (R-Ga.) was using when he recently referred to Sen. Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, as elitist and “uppity.”

The phrase “uppity (N-word)” was used to let a black person know he was out of his “place.”

It was used on black people during the civil rights movement, who refused to give up seats on buses and who moved into segregated neighborhoods, as well as black people who used proper English. It was likely the last phrase heard by freedom riders in Mississippi before they were killed and buried in an earthen dam.

And it was the phrase I heard one day during the 1960s in southwest Atlanta when my grandmother became one of the first black families to move into what was then a predominantly white neighborhood.

While walking up Lynhurst Drive, I was surrounded by a group of white kids who decided to call me and a friend “uppity” because of our Catholic school uniforms.

We ran and were subsequently chased —- running from the words being hurled at us.

“Uppity … who do you think you are?”

“This is our neighborhood!”

Westmoreland is no better than his black counterparts who refer to young blacks who use proper English and make good grades as “trying to be white.”

Between those two factions it is very hard for young blacks, especially males, to defy the odds and move away from the vernacular and culture that make them sound and dress like 20th century slaves.

They are damned if they do and damned if they don’t. Westmoreland, and others like him, will then decry them as lazy and unwilling to work and achieve.

My question for Westmoreland is: How many times have you been called out for referring to a white person as “uppity?”

Palin, How the Media is Giving her a Free Pass

The McCain campaign has taken a 3 point lead in the Gallup poll, mostly because of two things. The convention bump and conservative excitement over Sarah Palin. As an outsider I can tell why the selection of Palin has actually worked. The country does not yet know who she is. And it may remain like that for a while.

The McCain camp has refused to expose her to actual media interviews, so Palin has not had to answer any real questions. Her claims have gone mostly unchallenged in the news networks. The McCain campaign has actually succeeded in putting the Media in the defensive, with claims of sexism. These claims are of course bullshit.

What the media started doing was trying to get to know Palin, and when questions were asked they were told that was sexism and they backed off. The same way that the media backed off when they were told we were invading Iraq. What people in the media fail to realize is that digging for the truth (which is their job) is not sexism. Giving her special consideration is.

Are you saying that Sarah Palin must be granted a certain level of protection because she is a woman? Is that really what feminist would tell us?

Yesterday Joe Biden appeared in Meet the Press. He opened himself to tough questions, why can't Sarah Palin try and do the same? Right now as we speak they are teaching her everything they think she needs to know, and how to avoid questions that she does not know the answer to. Will the media when they finally get to her recognize that? Or will they just roll over as they have been doing lately?

Let's face it, the media has become lazy, they sit back and wait for talking points from the campaign. They repeat what the campaign says, but hardly ever challenge it. Edward R Murrow must be turning in his grave.

IMHO what the media needs to realize is that the truth does not have two sides. More often than not, the truth is not "fair and balanced". Investigative reporters who have worked throughout history have not found out the truth then publish the other side of the story as if somehow the truth and the talking points are at the same level. It is different to give Sarah Palin a chance to defend her record, than it is to give her side of the story.

It is time for the media to go back to the 60's when we had reporters who put the truth first.

Attacks, praise stretch truth at GOP convention

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and her Republican supporters held back little Wednesday as they issued dismissive attacks on Barack Obama and flattering praise on her credentials to be vice president. In some cases, the reproach and the praise stretched the truth.

Some examples:

PALIN: "I have protected the taxpayers by vetoing wasteful spending ... and championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress. I told the Congress 'thanks but no thanks' for that Bridge to Nowhere."
THE FACTS: As mayor of Wasilla, Palin hired a lobbyist and traveled to Washington annually to support earmarks for the town totaling $27 million. In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation. While Palin notes she rejected plans to build a $398 million bridge from Ketchikan to an island with 50 residents and an airport, that opposition came only after the plan was ridiculed nationally as a "bridge to nowhere."

PALIN: "There is much to like and admire about our opponent. But listening to him speak, it's easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform — not even in the state senate."
THE FACTS: Compared to McCain and his two decades in the Senate, Obama does have a more meager record. But he has worked with Republicans to pass legislation that expanded efforts to intercept illegal shipments of weapons of mass destruction and to help destroy conventional weapons stockpiles. The legislation became law last year. To demean that accomplishment would be to also demean the work of Republican Sen. Richard Lugar of Indiana, a respected foreign policy voice in the Senate. In Illinois, he was the leader on two big, contentious measures in Illinois: studying racial profiling by police and requiring recordings of interrogations in potential death penalty cases. He also successfully co-sponsored major ethics reform legislation.

PALIN: "The Democratic nominee for president supports plans to raise income taxes, raise payroll taxes, raise investment income taxes, raise the death tax, raise business taxes, and increase the tax burden on the American people by hundreds of billions of dollars."
THE FACTS: The Tax Policy Center, a think tank run jointly by the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute, concluded that Obama's plan would increase after-tax income for middle-income taxpayers by about 5 percent by 2012, or nearly $2,200 annually. McCain's plan, which cuts taxes across all income levels, would raise after tax-income for middle-income taxpayers by 3 percent, the center concluded.
Obama would provide $80 billion in tax breaks, mainly for poor workers and the elderly, including tripling the Earned Income Tax Credit for minimum-wage workers and higher credits for larger families.
He also would raise income taxes, capital gains and dividend taxes on the wealthiest. He would raise payroll taxes on taxpayers with incomes above $250,000, and he would raise corporate taxes. Small businesses that make more than $250,000 a year would see taxes rise.

MCCAIN: "She's been governor of our largest state, in charge of 20 percent of America's energy supply ... She's responsible for 20 percent of the nation's energy supply. I'm entertained by the comparison and I hope we can keep making that comparison that running a political campaign is somehow comparable to being the executive of the largest state in America," he said in an interview with ABC News' Charles Gibson.
THE FACTS: McCain's phrasing exaggerates both claims. Palin is governor of a state that ranks second nationally in crude oil production, but she's no more "responsible" for that resource than President Bush was when he was governor of Texas, another oil-producing state. In fact, her primary power is the ability to tax oil, which she did in concert with the Alaska Legislature. And where Alaska is the largest state in America, McCain could as easily have called it the 47th largest state — by population.

MCCAIN: "She's the commander of the Alaska National Guard. ... She has been in charge, and she has had national security as one of her primary responsibilities," he said on ABC.
THE FACTS: While governors are in charge of their state guard units, that authority ends whenever those units are called to actual military service. When guard units are deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan, for example, they assume those duties under "federal status," which means they report to the Defense Department, not their governors. Alaska's national guard units have a total of about 4,200 personnel, among the smallest of state guard organizations.

FORMER ARKANSAS GOV. MIKE HUCKABEE: Palin "got more votes running for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska than Joe Biden got running for president of the United States."
THE FACTS: A whopper. Palin got 616 votes in the 1996 mayor's election, and got 909 in her 1999 re-election race, for a total of 1,525. Biden dropped out of the race after the Iowa caucuses, but he still got 76,165 votes in 23 states and the District of Columbia where he was on the ballot during the 2008 presidential primaries.

FORMER MASSACHUSETTS GOV. MITT ROMNEY: "We need change, all right — change from a liberal Washington to a conservative Washington! We have a prescription for every American who wants change in Washington — throw out the big-government liberals, and elect John McCain and Sarah Palin."
THE FACTS: A Back-to-the-Future moment. George W. Bush, a conservative Republican, has been president for nearly eight years. And until last year, Republicans controlled Congress. Only since January 2007 have Democrats have been in charge of the House and Senate.

Man, are the conservatives angry about the attention Bristol Palin has received. I will be the first to say, that this would be a private matter if it weren't because the GOP claims to be the (large) family values party.

I do not remember any of them being offended when John McCain himself in June of 1998 made jokes about Chelsea Clinton. In fact I remember all right wing radio jumping on it, repeating the joke and creating new ones. At least the comments have come from bloggers and not from Barack Obama himself.

Let's ask another question for the sake of arguments. If the shoe was on the other foot, if it were Barack Obama's daughter on the same situation that Bristol Palin is in right now, what would right wing bloggers and radio say? Do you think for one second that they would not be using this as a tool to discredit Barack Obama? I can hear them already "doesn't he say that parents should be responsible for their kids?"

I want you to understand something. The reason why some bloggers including myself are reporting this is NOT to make fun of Bristol. We in fact wish her the best. We do point out though the stands Sarah Palin has taken. She believes that we should not give proper sex education, instead we should teach abstinence only. Well if she can't get that to work in her own house, how will she get it to work in everyone else's? And if she can't convince her own family to get with the program, how will she get Iran and Russia to cooperate should she become president?

These are important questions, the best argument that I have heard for her national security experience is that Alaska is close to Russia (see the Cindy McCain video on a previous post). The fact that John McCain selected her shows the kind of rash decisions he would make as commander in chief. IMHO after telling us how dangerous the world is, to chose Sarah Palin as a running mate not only shows the terrible judgment John McCain is capable of, but it also shows that the whole "I put America first" argument that John McCain likes to throw around is nothing but crap.

He did not chose Sarah Palin to be the running mate because she was the most qualified person he could find. I hear a lot of right wing bloggers say that she has more executive experience than Obama because she was governor of Alaska. Well if that's the case, she has also more experience than John McCain, is that what they are saying? After all John McCain has never been governor and has 0 executive experience. And how does being a governor ensure that she would be ready to lead as opposed to someone who hasn't. Abraham Lincoln was not a governor, neither was Adams, or Eisenhower, or Kennedy, all regarded as great presidents. On the other hand, George W Bush was a governor of TX and look what good that did the country.

So the rumor of the 5th baby was proven wrong, and what happens now? Bristol is pregnant. I wonder if Republicans are starting to think that Palin was a horrible decision? I mean i personally have no problem if someone gets pregnant out of wedlock, but the Religious right are very strict about those things.

I am sorry, it is wrong, I know, but I still think it is funny. I mean Sarah Palin advocates abstinence only education, so no sex before marriage... oops. And she wants to tell other kids what they are supposed to do? This is what happens when you teach abstinence only. Apparently sex is way too powerful for that.

I wonder if they are making the guy marry her, because that's one of the things they said first. She will marry the father, does she have to? Does he have to? Well she is a life long member of the NRA so you know Sarah is packing, maybe he does have to.

Today also Sarah palin hired a lawyer to deal with the abuse of power investigation. Somehow I am starting to think the McCain campaign did not ask her every question. Is she the first VP candidate to skip the debate because she will be in jail? hmmm

IMHO Liberals should have fun with this, not with the pregnancy thing, but with the trouble it is creating for the McCain campaign. We wish Bristol the best, and we wish Sarah a lot of chaos from now until November.

Now that Hillary Clinton has at last formally withdrawn from the race for the White House, the eyes of America and the world will focus on Barack Obama and his Republican rival Senator John McCain.

While Obama will surely press his credentials as the embodiment of the American dream – a handsome, charismatic young black man who was raised on food stamps by a single mother and who represents his country’s future – McCain will present himself as a selfless, principled war hero whose campaign represents not so much a battle for the presidency of the United States, but a crusade to rescue the nation’s tarnished reputation.

McCain likes to illustrate his moral fibre by referring to his five years as a prisoner-of-war in Vietnam. And to demonstrate his commitment to family values, the 71-year-old former US Navy pilot pays warm tribute to his beautiful blonde wife, Cindy, with whom he has four children.

But there is another Mrs McCain who casts a ghostly shadow over the Senator’s presidential campaign. She is seldom seen and rarely written about, despite being mother to McCain’s three eldest children.

And yet, had events turned out differently, it would be she, rather than Cindy, who would be vying to be First Lady. She is McCain’s first wife, Carol, who was a famous beauty and a successful swimwear model when they married in 1965.

She was the woman McCain dreamed of during his long incarceration and torture in Vietnam’s infamous ‘Hanoi Hilton’ prison and the woman who faithfully stayed at home looking after the children and waiting anxiously for news.

But when McCain returned to America in 1973 to a fanfare of publicity and a handshake from Richard Nixon, he discovered his wife had been disfigured in a terrible car crash three years earlier. Her car had skidded on icy roads into a telegraph pole on Christmas Eve, 1969. Her pelvis and one arm were shattered by the impact and she suffered massive internal injuries.

When Carol was discharged from hospital after six months of life-saving surgery, the prognosis was bleak. In order to save her legs, surgeons

had been forced to cut away huge sections of shattered bone, taking with it her tall, willowy figure. She was confined to a wheelchair and was forced to use a catheter.

Through sheer hard work, Carol learned to walk again. But when John McCain came home from Vietnam, she had gained a lot of weight and bore little resemblance to her old self.

Today, she stands at just 5ft4in and still walks awkwardly, with a pronounced limp. Her body is held together by screws and metal plates and, at 70, her face is worn by wrinkles that speak of decades of silent suffering.

For nearly 30 years, Carol has maintained a dignified silence about the accident, McCain and their divorce. But last week at the bungalow where she now lives at Virginia Beach, a faded seaside resort 200 miles south of Washington, she told The Mail on Sunday how McCain divorced her in 1980 and married Cindy, 18 years his junior and the heir to an Arizona brewing fortune, just one month later.

Carol insists she remains on good terms with her ex-husband, who agreed as part of their divorce settlement to pay her medical costs for life. ‘I have no bitterness,’

she says. ‘My accident is well recorded. I had 23 operations, I am five inches shorter than I used to be and I was in hospital for six months. It was just awful, but it wasn’t the reason for my divorce.

‘My marriage ended because John McCain didn’t want to be 40, he wanted to be 25. You know that happens...it just does.’

Some of McCain’s acquaintances are less forgiving, however. They portray the politician as a self-centred womaniser who effectively abandoned his crippled wife to ‘play the field’. They accuse him of finally settling on Cindy, a former rodeo beauty queen, for financial reasons.

McCain was then earning little more than £25,000 a year as a naval officer, while his new father-in-law, Jim Hensley, was a multi-millionaire who had impeccable political connections.

He first met Carol in the Fifties while he was at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis. He was a privileged, but rebellious scion of one of America’s most distinguished military dynasties – his father and grandfather were both admirals.

But setting out to have a good time, the young McCain hung out with a group of young officers who called themselves the ‘Bad Bunch’.

His primary interest was women and his conquests ranged from a knife-wielding floozy nicknamed ‘Marie, the Flame of Florida’ to a tobacco heiress.

Carol fell into his fast-living world by accident. She escaped a poor upbringing in Philadelphia to become a successful model, married an Annapolis classmate of McCain’s and had two children – Douglas and Andrew – before renewing what one acquaintance calls ‘an old flirtation’ with McCain.

It seems clear she was bowled over by McCain’s attention at a time when he was becoming bored with his playboy lifestyle.

‘He was 28 and ready to settle down and he loved Carol’s children,’ recalled another Annapolis graduate, Robert Timberg, who wrote The Nightingale’s Song, a bestselling biography of McCain and four other graduates of the academy.

The couple married and McCain adopted Carol’s sons. Their daughter, Sidney, was born a year later, but domesticity was clearly beginning

to bore McCain – the couple were regarded as ‘fixtures on the party circuit’ before McCain requested combat duty in Vietnam at the end of 1966.

He was assigned as a bomber pilot on an aircraft carrier in the Gulf of Tonkin.

What follows is the stuff of the McCain legend. He was shot down over Hanoi in October 1967 on his 23rd mission over North Vietnam and was badly beaten by an angry mob when he was pulled, half-drowned from a lake.

Over the next five-and-a-half years in the notorious Hoa Loa Prison he was regularly tortured and mistreated.

It was in 1969 that Carol went to spend the Christmas holiday – her third without McCain – at her parents’ home. After dinner, she left to drop off some presents at a friend’s house.

It wasn’t until some hours later that she was discovered, alone and in terrible pain, next to the wreckage of her car. She had been hurled through the windscreen.

After her first series of life-saving operations, Carol was told she may never walk again, but when doctors said they would try to get word to McCain about her injuries, she refused, insisting: ‘He’s got enough problems, I don’t want to tell him.’

H. Ross Perot, a billionaire Texas businessman, future presidential candidate and advocate of prisoners of war, paid for her medical care.

When McCain – his hair turned prematurely white and his body reduced to little more than a skeleton – was released in March 1973, he told reporters he was overjoyed to see Carol again.

But friends say privately he was ‘appalled’ by the change in her appearance. At first, though, he was kind, assuring her: ‘I don’t look so good myself. It’s fine.’

He bought her a bungalow near the sea in Florida and another former PoW helped him to build a railing so she could pull herself over the dunes to the water.

‘I thought, of course, we would live happily ever after,’ says Carol. But as a war hero, McCain was moving in ever-more elevated circles.

Through Ross Perot, he met Ronald Reagan, then Governor of California. A sympathetic Nancy Reagan took Carol under her wing.

But already the McCains’ marriage had begun to fray. ‘John started carousing and running around with women,’ said Robert Timberg.

McCain has acknowledged that he had girlfriends during this time, without going into details. Some friends blame his dissatisfaction with Carol, but others give some credence to her theory of a mid-life crisis.

He was also fiercely ambitious, but it was clear he would never become an admiral like his illustrious father and grandfather and his thoughts were turning to politics.

In 1979 – while still married to Carol – he met Cindy at a cocktail party in Hawaii. Over the next six months he pursued her, flying around the country to see her. Then he began to push to end his marriage.

Carol and her children were devastated. ‘It was a complete surprise,’ says Nancy Reynolds, a former Reagan aide.

‘They never displayed any difficulties between themselves. I know the Reagans were quite shocked because they loved and respected both Carol and John.’

Another friend added: ‘Carol didn’t fight him. She felt her infirmity made her an impediment to him. She justified his actions because of all he had gone through. She used to say, “He just wants to make up for lost time.”’

Indeed, to many in their circle the saddest part of the break-up was Carol’s decision to resign herself to losing a man she says she still adores.

Friends confirm she has remained friends with McCain and backed him in all his campaigns. ‘He was very generous to her in the divorce but of course he could afford to be, since he was marrying Cindy,’ one observed.

McCain transferred the Florida beach house to Carol and gave her the right to live in their jointly-owned townhouse in the Washington suburb of Alexandria. He also agreed to pay her alimony and child support.

A former neighbour says she subsequently sold up in Florida and Washington and moved in 2003 to Virginia Beach. He said: ‘My impression was that she found the new place easier to manage as she still has some difficulties walking.’

Meanwhile McCain moved to Arizona with his new bride immediately after their 1980 marriage. There, his new father-in-law gave him a job and introduced him to local businessmen and political powerbrokers who would smooth his passage to Washington via the House of Representatives and Senate.

And yet despite his popularity as a politician, there are those who won’t forget his treatment of his first wife.

Ted Sampley, who fought with US Special Forces in Vietnam and is now a leading campaigner for veterans’ rights, said: ‘I have been following John McCain’s career for nearly 20 years. I know him personally. There is something wrong with this guy and let me tell you what it is – deceit.

‘When he came home and saw that Carol was not the beauty he left behind, he started running around on her almost right away. Everybody around him knew it.

‘Eventually he met Cindy and she was young and beautiful and very wealthy. At that point McCain just dumped Carol for something he thought was better.

‘This is a guy who makes such a big deal about his character. He has no character. He is a fake. If there was any character in that first marriage, it all belonged to Carol.’

One old friend of the McCains said: ‘Carol always insists she is not bitter, but I think that’s a defence mechanism. She also feels deeply in his debt because in return for her agreement to a divorce, he promised to pay for her medical care for the rest of her life.’

Carol remained resolutely loyal as McCain’s political star rose. She says she agreed to talk to The Mail on Sunday only because she wanted to publicise her support for the man who abandoned her.

Indeed, the old Mercedes that she uses to run errands displays both a disabled badge and a sticker encouraging people to vote for her ex-husband. ‘He’s a good guy,’ she assured us. ‘We are still good friends. He is the best man for president.’

But Ross Perot, who paid her medical bills all those years ago, now believes that both Carol McCain and the American people have been taken in by a man who is unusually slick and cruel – even by the standards of modern politics.

‘McCain is the classic opportunist. He’s always reaching for attention and glory,’ he said.

‘After he came home, Carol walked with a limp. So he threw her over for a poster girl with big money from Arizona. And the rest is history.’

So I never go with rumors, in fact when someone mentioned it to me I went on line to try to prove it wrong. I have failed. I am keeping up with the investigation of this rumor. However I must say that at this point what I have found seems to point to this rumor being true.

Let's think like an investigator shall we? The picture on the left by Brian Wallace was taken on Super Tuesday, 1 month before baby Trig was born. Does she look like she is a month away from giving birth? She is also pro life and against contraception, her view is Abstinence only. During that TX conference, she left early and went all the way to Alaska to give birth, all the way from Texas. If you are pregnant and your water breaks are you seriously going to tell me that you are gonna go to the airport, wait at least an hour in there while you are checked in, and wait for your flight to leave and take an 8 hour flight just so you can go to Alaska to give birth?

Airlines have specific policies when it comes to traveling during pregnancy, even more so during the final months. A “permission-to-travel” letter is required fror women traveling in the final month of pregnancy by her primary physician. So that would have also take more time. “Governor Palin was extremely pleasant to flight attendants and her stage of pregnancy was not apparent by observation as she didn’t show any signs of distress,” said Caroline Boren from Alaska Airlines to the Newsminer newspaper in Alaska. Also, as we know, baby Trig has down syndrome, and according to Pediatrics.com "about 75% of babies with Down syndrome are born to younger women", however that is because more younger women give birth than older women.

McCain has said several times that he puts country first, well with this pick, he put his 73 year old foot in his 73 year old mouth. What if he becomes president and something were to happen to him. There were more qualified republican women and yet he chose the former model. Just like his first wife, just like his mistress then second wife. This proves that his judgment is questionable. I don't like Mitt Romney, but there is no way that Gov Palin is more qualified than him. I don't like Kay Bailey Hutchinson (if he needed a woman in the ticket) but there is no way that Palin is more qualified. And what about poor Charlie Crist? He married for nothing?

He is against choice, has voted for limiting contraceptives, says will appoint judges like Alito and Roberts, opposes equal wages for equal work and voted against health care for children. If you voted for her because of the color of the skin, then I only have one thing to say to you... What year is it where you live? John McCain last week said he was proud of President Bush for not allowing any money added on to the economy stimulus package. One of the points John McCain makes about his "National Security credentials" is that he opposed the Rumsfeld startegy, but that was not Rumsfeld, that was george Bush. it wasn't President Rumsfeld. But McCain is proud that Bush changed strategies, yeah after five years of allowing screw up after screw up. While Bush was allowing all this people who didn't need to die did.

That's why Republicans do not say the current presiden'ts name as much, instead they invoque Ronald Reagan every day and every night. Senator Edwards announced Wednesday that he was leaving the campaign, and although we think it is the right move it does not mean that it does not pain us to see him go. We think he will be around, and we hope he throws his support behind Senator Obama, who is the only candidate left who can bring the change to Washington that Senator Edwards spoke about.

During his campaign, Senator Edwards brought focus to issues that no one did before. He was the first one to offer a real plan for universal healthcare. He spoke for those whom no one else speaks for. The poor, the homeless, the veterans. In a time when everyone says "support the troops" he was the only one to shed light on the thousands of veterans who are homeless today. He understood and spoke of the poor because he was at one point one of them. He is the perfect American Dream. the poor boy from SC who grew up to make a difference.

We hope the Democrats learn from Senator Edwards and keep him in mind when they chose a running mate. IMHO John Edwards still has a lot to offer to this country. Mr Edwards... Thank You.

The NOW (National Organization for Women) NY tate chapter, and their President Marcia Pappas are attacking Ted Kennedy for his endorsement of Barak Obama, calling it "the greatest betrayal." From choice, to women's rights etc. Their biggest complaint is that he was late in supporting "Title IX, the ERA, the Family Leave and Medical Act." I am angry at NOW New York Chapter and Mrs Pappas. How dare they attack Ted Kennedy? IMHO Senator Kennedy has been a champion for women, and who he supports for president does not diminish his record. South Caroline got the message. They voted for Barak Obama and not Hillary Clinton. I know Senator Obama was not my first choice, but it is quickly becoming obvious that Senator Edwards will not win this race. So if that makes me a fair weather voter so be it.

There is one thing I can say though. I have never said anything bad about Senator Obama. I think he will be a great president if elected, and would have an easier time getting elected than Hillary. I am not just saying that, I have done some research. I have spoken to many supporters of other candidates who have told me that if Hillary is the nominee they will not vote. I am one of them.

I want to make it clear. I lived in NY the two times Mrs Clinton ran for the US Senate. Both times I supported her, and both times I voted for her. Both times I did my best to get her as many votes as I could. When people called her a carpetbagger, I reminded them of the Clinton years. I also think President Clinton is one of the best presidents this country has ever seen. If there were no term limits I guarantee you he'd get elected again, and I would be happy to support him.

But the Clinton campaign has run such divisive campaign this time, there is no way I can see myself voting for her. If she is the nominee, I will be voting for the green party. Maybe pray that Michael Bloomberg decides to run. The way they have attacked Barak Obama is despicable. Have they for one second stop to think "what if Hillary doesn't win? aren't we just giving the republicans some material?"

Now we approach "Super Tuesday", that will be the moment of truth for all candidates. IMHO I think it is time for Senator Edwards to drop out of the race and throw his support to Senator Obama. I hate to say that, because I think Senator Edwards has the most to offer, but if we want change we can't wait until after Super Tuesday.

I Cant vote for Hillary anymore

I am a democrat, I vote democrat every single time. I vote every time. The only way I will vote democrat in the November election is if Hillary Clinton is not the nomenee. That's right, I cannot bring myself to vote for her, not anymore. When the race started I said to myself I agree with Edwards (I still do), but if he is not the winner I will vote for any democrat. But recent actions by her campaign and the actions of the Former President Clinton have changed my mind. They have acted the way Republicans act, and that is a sure way to wave goodbye to my vote.

I am praying that Hillary will not be the nomenee, because I know I am not alone. I know a lot of people think the same same way. Ip posted the question in Yahoo answers and a few were supportive of Mrs Clinton, the great majority said they would not vote for her in the general. I hope democrat voters wake up and realize this before Super Tuesday. Hillary Clinton will lose against the Republicans in November, do not overlook the Obama and Edwards voters. A lot of us will not vote for her.

John Edwards is still my favorite, he wins every debate and his message is everything every democrat wants to hear. It has nothing to do with race (I am Latino). It has all to do with actions, with sincerity, with hope for the country. He is a fighter who will fight for the ones whom politicians have forgotten, plus he doesn't take special interest money, and that is huge.

Barak Obama is capable, he inspires people. I have heard "he doesn't have the experience." and I say what he doesn't have in experience he makes up in intelligence and sincerity, so he is a great choice too, and I understand it.

Mrs Clinton and her campaign have been too divisive for my taste, in the general election IMHO she will get no more than 35% of the vote. To Democrats I say, do you want to take that chance?

This is Part 2 of Stop the hate. When I see people hating people I will say it. Today I come in defense of undocumented people.

I was flipping channels and I came across Lou Dobbs on CNN. You know, the guy who is trying to ressurect a career by bashing those whohave no voice (Illegal aliens). He is using racism to get viewers and no one ever says anything about it. He has stories about how an Illegal immigrant got drunk, got behind the wheel and killed this beautiful white girl. Hey it is a sad story, but had the guy behind the wheel been a citizen, then would it be less tragic? Would Lou Dobbs even know that she ever existed? Of course not. That is not a story about illegal aliens, it is about drunk driving. Don't get confused here. I am not saying the guy was not an asshole and deserves to go to jail, what I am saying is that whomever it was that person should be in jail. Equal treatment, such a beautiful thing. So Dobbs is exploiting a girls death to make his point, and further his career, and make more money.

He also had some woman from the KKK, I mean Mothers Against Illegal Aliens... get it, they try to sound like MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) so they get some coverage. But they are not Mad they are Maia, hey doesn't Maia sound like Maya? the Irony. She said the schools in Phoenix were over crowded, but instead of asking for more teachers she wants all those kids sent back to hunger, and possibly to die, all because they don't like brown people. Compassionate conservatives, my ass. Of course when you do to the MAIA site she is possing with her all republican friends. I know some republicans will get offended by me saying that, but think about it, why do minorities vote democrat and the republican party has mostly white people in it? I want to start by saying that I like Al Sharpton. I agree with a lot of what he has to say, but when it comes to Imus he is wrong and to a certain point a hypocritical. As a commentator/comedian I believe no one should get fired for a joke. I understand that people get offended, but a joke, however bad is just that, a joke.

I am writing this, not because it was on the news, not because someone on TV said something, but because someone in my personal life said something. Someone asked me about my religious beliefs and I told them the truth “I am an atheist.” I did not want to get into it, because I know it can start heated arguments. The person asked enough times that I had to say it, “Religion turned me into an atheist”

Do not get me wrong, religion does a lot of good for a lot of people. When Hurricane Katrina happened, religious organizations got there and helped way before FEMA did, and they deserve credit for that. My problem with religion is when it is used as a tool to divide people. I am pro gay marriage, and I always make that clear, even though it brings out the idiot on a lot of people. I have been called a faggot, gay, queer. Never bothered me because although I am straight, I have gay and bisexual friends who are some of the best people anyone will ever have the chance to know. I am thankful I can call them my friends.

However, when I am asked about my religion, and I said I am an atheist, I use the gay issue as an example of why I am not a religious person. I find it so morally wrong to judge a person because of whom they chose to love. How can anyone just say that someone’s life style is an abomination? That’s when they quote the bible. The bible does call homosexuality an abomination, that is true. The bible also calls touching a pig’s skin an abomination, so I guess if you ever played foot ball you are as guilty as anyone. The bible also says it is ok to sell your daughter to slavery. They even give the rules on how to treat slavery. The bible also says it is ok to stone your kid death if he is insolent. My point is, just because the bible says it, it does not make it right.

I don’t care what people call me. Call me all the names in the book, it does not hurt me. It does not mean that I think discrimination is ok, but I know better. IMHO discrimination is an abomination. Unfortunately ignorance is powerful although it makes the person weak. All this anti gay marriage movements are based on discrimination, on the need to feel superior to someone. Just like Men wanted to feel superior to women before women got the right to vote. Just like some whites had the need to feel superior to blacks before the civil rights movement. This is the movement of our times. This is when a few of us must stand for what is right, not for what is popular. After all, if no one did in the sixties we would have segregation still.

President Bush is calling democrats "irresponsible" for not approving money for the war in Iraq. Furthermore he criticized Nancy Pelosi for seeking diplomacy by meeting with Syrian president Bashar al-Assad. I guess diplomacy is bad for this war loving president.

But lets analyze this, President Bush does not have grounds to call ANYONE irresponsible. If anyone should be called irresponsible it is the President himself.

-He ignored a memo tittled "Osama Bin Laden determined to attack inside the U.S." while he was on one of them long vacations he decides to take

-Once September 11th happened he was told that we were under attack. Not knowing the extent of the attack he decided to sit on his "lame duck president's ass" in a classroom reading "My pet goat."

-He has intentionally ignored threats of global warming

-Do I have to really get into the Katrina aftermath? New Orleans is still struggling to it's feet

-After saying we would capture Osama Bin Laden "dead or alive" confesses he "doesn't spend much time thinking about it." We know.

-He promises to use diplomacy before attacking Iraq if given authorization to go to war from congress, gets the authorization, attacks Iraq.

-Lies about weapons of mass destruction, and it is found intelligence had been cooked.

-When someone leaks the name of Valerie Plame, who at the time was under covered for the CIA and working in tracking rogue nuclear devices, promises to fire anyone in the administration that was responsible for the leak. No one gets fired.

-Has led the country into a war that was not necessary. Because of that decision over 3000 American soldiers have died, over 70 thousand wounded or amputated, and countless of Iraqi civilians have died.

-His policies have turned world sentiment against us

Those are just a few of the things this lame duck president will be remembered for, and he has the nerve to call anyone irresponsible? IMHO sir, all these things that I have mentioned before can make you Irresponsible, Evil or Stupid, now which is it?

THERE IS NO DEBATE ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING! Over 99% of scientists believe we are the cause of global warming, that is not a debate. Saying that there is a debate about global warming would be like saying there is a debate about the earth being round or flat. For example there is something called the “Flat Earth Society”. They claim that the earth is flat, and they also claim to have a few thousand members. All reasonable people besides those few thousand loonies know there is no debate. There are not one thousand scientists who believe that we are not influencing climate change in the world, so why do we believe there is a debate about that? 30% of Americans believe the earth is only 6 thousand years old. Well we have fossils and carbon dating, and the 30 percent are wrong, no debate. Evidence is such a beautiful thing.
There have been climate changes throughout history, but the patern is not even close to what we have been going through in the past few years, all you have to do is look at current trends to understand that we are in for something this planet has never seen before, Even past ice ages trends pale in comparison to our current trends.
Now let’s say that the less than 1% are right and Senator Inhofe is right, which they are not. Is it really worth the gamble. If we get ready and try to correct the current trends we would waste money. But if he is wrong and he is and we don’t do anything then he and the less than 1% will be responsible for the deaths of millions of people and the displacement of millions more. He is gambling that his less than 1% chance of being right is worth the lives of millions of people and animals. IMHO ASSHOLE!!!

They also say that Unions usually back democrats, well that is true, and that is because most democrats favor organized workers and higher minimum salaries.

If union members feel their leaderships are corrupt, the fact is that they CAN vote them out. Unions are an asset to workers, because if you think that companies give their employees salaries higher than minimum because of the goodness of their hearts, IMHO you are beeing naive. I received an email recently asking me why not Hillary? First of all, let me just say that if Hillary were the candidate for president I would vote for her. I would also be happy if she were president. She is a smart and capable woman, and she would put the country in the right direction. The guilty veredict on the case of Scooter Libby has started a movement by a lot of the right wing blogs and media. The cry is that Libby is a patriot and was prosecuted of lying under oath and not other crimes he was being investigated for. Where were all these hypocrites when Bill Clinton was impeached for lies about his sex lives? Is infidelity more important than the lies that took an entire nation to war?
Republicans point to the fact that democrats had the same information that the president had and that’s why the authorized the war. Well no, the democrats had the information that the administration cherry picked and gave them to make their case for war. The democrats also authorized the motion to give the president the authorization to go to war, because the president promised he would use it as a last resort.
Is it only me who remembers that when the inspectors started sending information that said they were not finding weapons that’s when the administration told the UN inspectors to get out? The Bush administration lied to get us into this war, make no mistake about it. They lied and when Ambasador Wilson gave info that contradicted their lies, they uncovered his wife’s identity. But it wasn’t just her, they revealed where she was, what she was doing, putting at risk not just Valerie Wilson, but the whole operation and any contacts the operation had.
Scooter Libby is not a patriot, Dick Cheney is not a patriot, Rove is not a patriot, their hunger for money and power is what drives them. It is not interest in the comon good. Libby lied to protect the lie. Dick Cheney says he has not benefited from the was and yet he still has Halliburton. President Bush promised to fire anyone involved in the leaking of Valery Wilson, Rove was involved and still has a job at 1600 PA avenue. Ann Coulter has been treated like a rock star in the right, If you watch the video of the comments made by her during the CPAC political event the people who were listening to her, were far from offended, they were clapping and cheering her on. As rescently as February of this year, polls indicated that the Majority of the American public thought the genocide going on in Darfur should be at the top of the foreign policy agenda. A month later the number of people who think actions should be taken has not changed, however the number of people who have died in Darfur continues to climb at an alarming pace.
Darfur is not one of those issues that divide Americans. Christian Evangelicals who usually vote republican, have launched the “Evangelicals for Darfur.” Hollywood liberals like George Clooney have been themselves very active in calling attention to Darfur. Darfur is not a republican issue, it is not a democrat issue, it is a human issue. Over 400 thousand people in the low estimates have been killed and millions displaced. And yet the United Nations, the African Union and the United States seem not to be acting. Waiting while the number of dead keep rising.
Where is the media? IMHO the media has take a lot of the blame. While people are dying in this barbaric display of lack of humanity, the media is telling us that Anna Nichole’s body is flying to the Bahamas, and that the judge was crying during the dispute, and that some girl in American Idol possed topless. Where are the priorities of the media. Is the killing of thousands of people not worth the television time? Is it not sexy enough a story? Will the advertisers pull out?
It is sad to me that the media has become a laundry basket of yellow journalism. Where are the Edward R. Murrows, the Karl Grossmans, where are the Woodward and Bernsteins of this era? Where are the Margaret Bourke- Whites? Unfortunetly those people don’t sell anymore.

We are taking a side step from the regular coverage of politics because of, the king of all media, yes you guessed it, we are talking about Howard Stern.
Jon Markman is the latest in a bunch of “reporters” who have in the past two years attacked Sirius Satellite Radio for hiring Howard Stern. They have attacked Howard Stern himself saying that his arrival has caused little impact in satellite radio.
Little impact? Howard Stern put satellite radio on the map. He has attracted millions of new subscribers to Sirius Satellite Radio, a medium that had less that 1 million subscribers when he arrived to close to 9 times as much in the past 2 years.
Why are this reporters predicting doom for Sirius? Could it be because their jobs are on the line? Mr Markman is a regular contributor for MSNBC and CNBC cable and radio all competing with Sirius. Could it be that he has a stake in the failure of satellite radio?
Let me tell you something, Sirius is not going anywhere. Just ask anyone who owns a satellite radio. I do, I never listen to terrestrial radio anymore, because the only reason I used to listen to it was the “Stephanie Miller Show” and she is in Sirius as well.
The fact is that Sirius gives programing that is by far better than anything regular radio has to offer. Howard Stern is at his best, so get used to it, better yet, get one and hear how radio is supposed to be done.

If you didn't yet see "Ghosts of Abu Ghraib" on HBO then you really should. It is an eye opening documentary. that is for the people that say it is ok to torture people. IMHO the enemy we are fighting, whom ever that is, no one seems to be abble to say who the enemy is, is barbaric and animalistic. When they decapitate their prisoners or set off a bomb in a crowded market place, they are disgusting human beeings. Does that mean we have to lower ourselves to their level? We are United States Citizens and as such we have a proud history when it comes to human rights. We should protect that history and expand it. The actions of Barbaric people and Animalistic people is no excuse for us to become like them

This was John McCain in 1999 “I’d love to see a point where it is irrelevant, and could be repealed because abortion is no longer necessary. But certainly in the short term, or even the long term, I would not support repeal of Roe v. Wade, which would then force X number of women in America to [undergo] illegal and dangerous operations.”
This is John McCain now "I do not support Roe versus Wade. It should be overturned,"
So the new darling of the Evangelicals “wanna be” is showing his face all over the place. John McCain R. Arizona has declared that he wants Roe v. Wade overturned. This is the same John McCain who said it would be her daughter’s decision if she ever had an abortion then had to apologize.
Ah yes, the hunger for power has gotten to the “Maverick.” What ever happened to that maverick? Did he die during the 2000 presidential campaign? What happened to the war hero who stood up to powers foreign and domestic? Is the hunger for power so big that it takes a man’s character, chews it up and spits it out?
It is sad to see a Vietnam era hero lower himself to this level. He now trades his honor for a few votes.he is nothing but a whore to the Christian evangelicals. IMHO I think it is ironic that in associating himself with the “God people” John McCain sold his soul.

New Orleans just got hit by a tornado yesterday, and that brought to mind the non sense I heard when Katrina hit. Some Christian loonies suggested that God was punishing the god-less city, because they party too much. This is a statement found in the website http://www.repentamerica.com/: "Although the loss of lives is deeply saddening, this act of God destroyed a wicked city," stated Repent America director Michael Marcavage. "From 'Girls Gone Wild' to 'Southern Decadence,' New Orleans was a city that had its doors wide open to the public celebration of sin. From the devastation may a city full of righteousness emerge," he continued.

If that is true then God hates all the red states in Tornado Alley, he hates the east coast during hurricane season, he hates the north east and gives them all the blizzards, he hates the mid west that’s why most of it is a dessert, and he hates the west coast with all the earthquakes, not even Hawaii is safe, they have all the volcanoes. I guess when Christian Conservative loonies say “God bless America” God is saying “No! I hate America.” Well IMHO that is a hateful insecure little God who does not deserve any praise or love. God is supposed to be love, not hate. At least that is what I remember being told as a kid as the church was attempting to wash my brain.

Why John Edwards

Although I like all the people who have announced that they are running for president I have to say that my favorite is John Edwards. Don’t get me wrong, all the candidates running for president on the Democratic side would be a huge improvement from the clown who now resides at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. That’s not much to say, a stray cat would make a better president than W.

The reason why I am picking Edwards as the best candidate is that he is talking about two things that no other candidate likes to mention. Universal health care, and the poor.

It is about time someone said it, it is embarrassing that in the most powerful nation in the world we do not have universal health care. Every industrialized nation in the world takes care of the health of its citizens, and don’t tell me that the health care in this nations does not compare to ours, believe me, a person in Toronto has as good a chance to make it as does someone in Chicago. The people in power do not want you to know that because that’s how they make money. I find it disgusting that people have to decide between food or medicine. That is just wrong. Isn’t that a moral issue?

The other subject is the poor. Does anyone really care about them anymore? John Edwards does. He has been calling attention to their issues ever since I learned his name. Senator Edwards is a man of the people and as such he shows he cares. It is sickening to me that in a country as wealthy as the United States of America, we have people going hungry at night struggling to find a way to get the next meal. Kids going to school hungry, seniors deciding between medicine or food. Not in my country! I feel John Edwards is the man for the job, the man with the vision.

IMHO I believe that John Edwards is the man who will rescue this country from mud the current administration has created. He is the man who will dig us out of the hole. I just hope that when he gets out of the primaries as the winner, he picks the best candidate for VP. Not Lieberman, not Kerry… How about President Edwards and Vice President Clark?
